What Does
Evidence Show?
No single labor position is considered the "best" for every person or every stage of labor. Research in this area has several important limitations.
Current evidence supports encouraging movement and allowing laboring individuals to choose comfortable positions whenever medically appropriate.
Maternal positioning should be individualized based on the person's preferences, labor progress, and clinical circumstances.
Research supports maternal movement and position changes during labor as a safe, low-cost intervention for most low-risk pregnancies.
